As part of the festival marking two hundred years since the birth of Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol, on 12 April there was a concert performance of Rodion Shchedrin's opera Dead Souls. Since the legendary production of 1978, entire generations of musicians and devotees of the opera have grown up, never having heard this celebrated work performed live. The creator of the work, composer Rodion Shchedrin, shares his impressions following the premiere.
